Afghanistan Project

In 2006, Dobbs was invited by the Foundation for Culture and a Civil Society (FCCS) to participate in the New Year's Music Festival held in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan. The biggest musical event in Afghanistan with musicians from Pakistan, Iran, India, Tajikistan and Afghanistan participating, the festival was started by the FCCS in 2003 after the fall of the Taliban, which had prohibited music of any kind. In 2007, the Welfare Association for the Development of Afghanistan (WADAN) began hosting Dobbs' performances in schools, orphanages, rehabilitation centers and government training workshops, all supporting the rebuilding effort in Afghanistan. Return visits took place in 2008 and 2009. BWV began a campaign, Music for Afghanistan, collecting instruments and sheet music for the Vocational Music School, which became the now very successful Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) founded in 2010. Dobbs returned as faculty for ANIM's Winter Festival in 2014 and 2015. Concerts have also been presented at the schools of Afghans 4 Tomorrow and the American Friendship Foundation. Dobbs continues to return in collaboration with WADAN.
